FRP Specifications;
PART 1.0 GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS:
Drawings and general provisions of the contract.
1.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
A. Provide prefabricated fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) shapes for
architectural purposes.
B. Work includes, but is not limited to: Restoring and/or sculpting of
existing ornamentation or new trim; mold making production, molding and
shop fabrication.
1.03 RELATED WORK
Specification for structural steel framing for primary support of FRP panels, and joint
sealer at joints between adjacent FRP panels and at perimeter of FRP panels field shall
not be part of this specification.
1.04 BUILDING CODE COMPLIANCE:
All work shall conform to building codes by contracting authority.
1.05 SYSTEM PERFORMANCE:
A. The FRP shapes, when installed shall be capable of with standing positive and
negative wind pressure without structural failure, permanent distortion or
displacement.
B. Allowable design stresses and resistance shall be conservatively selected by the
engineer.
C. Load Bearing Strengths: The maximum temporary deflection due to all loads
shall not exceed 1/360 th of the distance between supports.
D. Thermal Movement: Design, fabricate and install component parts to provide
for expansion and contraction over an ambient temperature range of 120
degrees without damage.
1.06 JOB CONDITIONS;
Verify dimensions at the job site and adjust final shop drawings and fabricated parts to
actual field measurements.
1.07 QUALITY CONTROL:
A. Fabricator shall institute quality control procedures for manufactures of FRP
units to control color, texture, dimensions, lines surfaces and strength of
materials.
B. Manufacturer:
1. Manufacturer shall demonstrate its ability and capacity to produce
products of the quality and scope of this project requirements.
2. Manufacture / Fabricator shall have been actively involved in
Architectural FRP Production for a minimum of 5 years.

Or: Qualified and approved equal.
1.08 SUBMITTALS:
A. Shop Drawings
1. Submit shop drawings complete information for the fabrication and
installation of FRP units. Indicate member dimension , and cross-
section , location , size and type of reinforcement, including special
reinforcement necessary for handling and erection.
2. Provide layout , dimensions and identification of each FRP unit
corresponding to the sequence and procedure of installation. Indicate
location and details of anchoring devices that are to e embedded in
other construction.
3. Samples: Submit two sets of samples (approx. 6" x 6") to illustrate
quality , color, and texture of finished surfaces. Approved samples
shall becomes the standard for judging the work.
PART 2.0 MATERIAL
2.01 SURFACE:
A. The molded exterior surface of the FRP units shall consist of UV inhibited,
sanitary grade NPG-ISO polyester gel coat w/ silica sand broad cast.
B. Wet gel coat film thickness should be 18 to 22 mils thick.
C. Gel coat shall be color matched to sample provided.
2.02 BACK UP LAMINATE
A. Resin
1. Isophthallic Polyester resin.
2. Standard GP
B. Fiberous Glass Reinforcement
1. "E" type fiberglass.
2. Random chopped glass fiber.
3. Glass content approx. 25% to 30%
C. Laminate Thickness.
1. Nominal thickness approx. 3/16" typ.
2. Additional thickness and reinforcement, and sandwich structures used
where necessary for structural strength.
2.03 AVERAGE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES:

NOTE: Certain applications may be best suited to specialty resin not capable of meeting
the above mechanical strengths values. Such resin will be allowed with compensatory
increases in minimum thickness.
2.04 RELATED MATERIALS:
Attachment and / or hanging structures (supplies by others) shall be of stainless steel,
galvanized steel or treated wood blocking.
All hardware (supplied by installers) shall be galvanized or stainless steel.
PART 3.0 EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION: (By installation contractor)
A. Lift, place and secure FRP units in accordance with Mfgr's shop drawings
and as acceptable to Architect.
B. Protect units from damage from field operation.
C. Caulk all joints with approved elastomeric sealant.
D. Assure conformity of all as -built structural and attachment substrate
dimensions to the allowable tolerances for proper installation of prefabricated
architectural FRP components.
E. Coordinate delivery and installation of FRP components with the work of other
trades.
F. Confirm the acceptance of all underlying structural and / or attachments
substrates prior to allowing installation of architectural FRP component s to
proceed.
G. Do not allow work involving the use of resin based materials to proceed at
temperatures below 55 degree F.
3.02 WARRANTY
A. The minimum acceptable warranty provision for architectural FRP components
shall be:
1. All fabrication will be in accordance with approved drawings and
specifications.
2. Materials and workmanship will meet or surpass industry standards
for similar work.
3. Any components found to be defective in materials or workmanship
will be either repaired or replaced at the option of the fabricator.
4. The minimum warranty period will be twelve (12) months following
substantial completion.
3.03 ADJUSTMENTS AND CLEANING
A. Repair (in accordance with manufacturers written procedures) and /
or removed and replaced any damaged or defective FRP components.
B. Clean exposed surfaces of FRP components soiled during the work for this
section.
C. Clean up all debris resulting from the work of this section.
3.04 INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE
A. Final inspection and acceptance of erection FRP panels shall be made by
the Architect and or owner to verify conformance with plans and specifications.
